When I think of women I look up to on campus, Dr. Melissa Schubert鈥檚 name is high on the list. She is fiercely intelligent鈥攑ossessing the ability to talk about grief in a way that acknowledges it鈥檚 complexity, while still holding firm to the hope we have in Christ.

鈥淢aybe some of you have had griefs, and received too small a consolation in the face of them. Maybe some of you have sat by others in grief, or suffering, and thought, 鈥業 have too small a consolation.鈥 Or, thought that you had a big enough consolation, or experienced your friend or neighbor as inconsolable.鈥

鈥淢aybe some of you have had griefs, and received too small a consolation in the face of them."

Listening to her acknowledge that sometimes, the comfort we find in the face of trials just doesn't feel like enough, felt like exhaling a breath I'd been holding for too long.

Trust me, you鈥檒l want to all the way to the end.
