Dr. Susan Elliott, director and professor for the Department of Nursing at 黑料历史, was awarded an honorable mention for the Inspirations in Women鈥檚 Health Awards on October 8, 2009.

鈥淚 am very humbled and honored,鈥 Elliott said.

Each year for the Inspirations awards the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women鈥檚 Health recognizes one first place winner and two honorable mentions.

The awards honor nurse practitioners who have inspired their colleagues through their work in the women鈥檚 health field. Nurse practitioners can be nominated by colleagues or nominate themselves and the awards are presented at the association鈥檚 annual conference. This year the conference was held in Providence, Rhode Island.

Elliott’s nominator described her mission work and dedication to helping and educating women in countries like Swaziland, Russia, Panama, Venezuela, Nicaragua and many others.

鈥淪ince 1979, Elliott has volunteered as a nurse practitioner, nurse researcher, nurse consultant, nurse educator and nurse presenter on six continents,鈥 the nominator wrote. 鈥淒r. Elliott鈥檚 method of care has been as diverse as the nations where she served. She has utilized her own little hotel room and an open-air shack as GYN clinics.鈥

Elliott said she wants to teach her students to follow God鈥檚 calling.

鈥淲hen you follow God鈥檚 plan, he takes you to and sustains you through, more than you ever could have imagined.鈥 Elliott said. 鈥淚 am able to teach global realities and God鈥檚 presence in those realities.鈥

As one of the honorable mention recipients Elliott won an all expense paid trip to the conference and a $500 scholarship for future projects.

Elliott joined Biola鈥檚 Department of Nursing in May 2008. As director, Elliott oversees the popular and growing program that strives to equip students both academically and spiritually for a future working in the field of nursing.
